Leo Messi is once again the subject of criticism in France. This time, with the Argentinian's possible participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after the 'Albiceleste' qualified.
Jerome Rothen, on his 'RMC' programme, attacked the Inter Miami star for the role he played for Paris Saint-Germain and his involvement in the squad and the country.
"Some people already have a short memory. He has been shooting at PSG, at France, at Paris since he left. All the French respected Messi when he came. In return, you expect the respect to be reciprocated, but it was never like that. He has never highlighted the country. And when he left, he took a shot at PSG," he argued.
Rothen was getting warmer as he spoke. "His services never lived up to the expectations. He signed for PSG to shine at the World Cup, we understood that very well. It was a place of welcome where it was good to live to walk the field. He was smart, he got his World Cup," he said.
"As a Parisian and a Frenchman, to see him here again wearing the Argentina shirt... I call for him to be whistled. I'm not saying we have to be violent, but whistle him when he is on the pitch to show him that we are unhappy with the image he has given for PSG, Paris and France. Let him assume it won't be a red carpet," said Rothen.
