Modric becomes third Real Madrid player with most Champions League games

Real Madrid have reached the Champions League round of 16 after eliminating Manchester City with a 6-2 beating on aggregate. The victory hands a massive boost for 'Los Blancos' as they have won the trophy in each of the three times they knocked out Pep Guardiola's side from the competition.
One player who was present in all said occasions was Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder, now demoted to a secondary role in Carlo Ancelotti's side, was brought on in the final minutes of the second leg as Aurelien Tchouameni left the pitch in the 83rd minute when the scoreline was on 3-0 for Real Madrid.
Those precious 7 minutes further cemented Modric's name into Real Madrid's history books. Having registered his 130th Champions League game with the 'Merengues' on Wednesday night, the Croatia international became the club's third player with the most appearances in the European competition, overtaking Sergio Ramos (129) and equalling Raul Gonzalez's tally (130).
While three Champions League trophies were won after having eliminated Man City earlier in the tournament, Modric has won five in total throughout his career at the Spanish capital. The 39-year-old is part of an exclusive club of players who have made over 100 Champions League appearances with Real Madrid. Behind him on the list are other legends like Toni Kroos (110), Roberto Carlos (107), Marcelo (102) and Cristiano Ronaldo (101).
Further up on the list, Karim Benzema finds himself in second place with 133, although Modric is only three appearances away from equalling the French striker. That said, the task of claiming first place could be a little bit more challenging as Iker Casillas sits above everyone with 150 Champions League appearances with Real Madrid.
