Modric and De Jong have met several times in several 'Clasicos'. They know each other's game well and they are full of respect for each other. On Wednesday, the two will meet again on the pitch, as they represent their countries in the Nations League semi-finals.
The Madrid midfielder was full of praise for the Dutchman: "Frenkie de Jong is one of the players I like to watch", he said to 'NOS'. "For me, he's the best of The Netherlands", he added.
The way Modric sees it, the Dutch game relies totally on the Catalan's midfielder: "All their attacks come from him. He's a top player, he has something special".
De Jong also had nice things to say about the Croatian as he spoke on Dutch TV. "Modric is an incredible player, he's a legend that's still playing. He's a great footballer to follow. He won the Ballon d'Or. He has style, technique ... he's a top player", he said.
Despite the mutual respect of these two greats, only one of their countries will make it to the final on Saturday, where they will meet either Italy or Spain, who play on Thursday night.
