Luka Modric, who was back in the starting line-up for Real Madrid's visit to Cqdiz on Sunday, had an argument with referee Xavier Estrada Fernandez, although it did not get out of hand.
Before the start of the second half, when Carlo Ancelotti's side were already leading by a superb goal from Rodrygo Goes, the Croatian asked the referee: "Can you treat me like that?" After hearing an answer from the referee, he remarked: "I've protested three times...I never disrespect you, but I can't talk".
The Croatia international had to be replaced a few minutes later by Daniel Ceballos after he picked up a muscle injury.
The issue of players not being allowed to talk to referees has become somewhat repetitive this season. Girona's David Lopez has already had to apologise in public for accusing Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias of insulting him. He mentioned it at half-time of a game Michel's side were playing against Almería and, a few days later, he apologised.
