Former Pumas coach Antonio Mohamed gave his opinion on the second leg of the Clausura play-off semi-final between Cruz Azul and Monterrey. On '90 minutos', an ESPN programme, he was asked who would be Real Madrid in Mexico and he had no hesitation in pointing the finger at the 'Rayados'.

In the first leg of the Clausura semi-finals, Monterrey lost 1-0 to Cruz Azul. That means that, in order to advance to the final, where America awaits them, they would have to beat their opponents by a two-goal margin.
On 'ESPN', Antonio Mohamed was asked which Mexican team he considers to be the 'Merengues' in Spain. "For history, America, but as an institution, Monterrey is Mexico's Real Madrid," he said flatly.
"I coached both. Monterrey is like Rosario Central or Newell's, but all the guys who came from Europe, like Vangioni, from Milan, Carrizo, from Inter, or Rogelio Funes Mori from Portugal, want to stay and live there," he said.
Since the 'Turco' left Pumas, he has not returned to training. He is taking a sabbatical year before choosing the right club. In the meantime, he is keeping a close eye on Mexican football. Who knows if he could return to coach one of these Liga MX clubs.
