Alvaro Morata decided to leave Atletico Madrid after becoming European champion with Spain. The Madrilenian signed for Milan and will start another journey in Italy after having played for Juventus.
The captain of the ‘Colchonero’ team, Koke Resurreccion, gave an interview to ‘Marca’ and spoke about the departure of his friend: "We need people who want to be at Atleti, who are 100% focused on the club to compete and win".
"If any teammate is not, as he has done, who has raised his hand and has decided and asked the club to leave, nothing happens. We will try to bring in another team-mate who is 100% with the mentality and to compete", he added.
On the pressure and disrespect that his former teammate has received, he said: "It's true that people are much worse on Alvaro. It's a shame, but that's the reality.
"He's had a very difficult time here or in the national team, and I'm sure he's had a difficult time in Italy too because in the end we're all affected, but here in Spain he's suffering. I've gone to lunch with him and he's had a thousand times people have told him all sorts of things," he added.
He also acknowledged that he was in contact with Morata during the European Championship: "I told him to cheer up, that there was less time left and that I was sure he was going to lift the cup, which is a dream that every player who has worn the Spain shirt or those who have not had the chance, and that he was close to it".
"I think it is something spectacular, not just for him, but for all Spaniards, that the national team has been able to win another European Championship, not just with the generation that won the Euro-World Cup-Euro, but with another one," he said.
