The Hate Crimes Section of the Valencia Provincial Prosecutor's Office referred the proceedings initiated to investigate the racist insults to which Real Madrid striker Vinicius was subjected last Sunday at the Mestalla stadium to an investigating court.
Faced with this current issue, other football figures are bringing to light unpleasant memories that they have experienced on a football pitch. One example is Fernando Morientes, former footballer and current talk show host, who recalled on 'Movistar' when he was the victim of insults from rival fans from the stands.
"I have felt insulted and attacked and threatened, for the mere fact, in my case, of being the son of a policeman. And I normalised that. Those moments created tension and discomfort for me, thinking about the situation", he said.
"Looking at the stands, you knew clearly what they wanted you to do. But I was very detached from the subject and didn't give it much thought. I never thought about leaving the pitch because of that aspect and I always thought that it was a very large minority that I would be happy if I was out of the sporting spectacle," he added.
