Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernandez acknowledged the poor performance against RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu (1-1), but drew a positive conclusion by assuring that they have fulfilled "the objective" of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
"The objective has been achieved, logically we know it wasn't our best game of the season. Sometimes you have bad games like today. They were phenomenal and we weren't good. Let this be good for what is to come and we have to be happy because we are in the Champions League quarter-finals," he said on Movistar+.
"In general terms, it wasn't a good game. From the start and in the second half we didn't know how to make ourselves strong after going ahead on the scoreboard. They have a lot of potential, they are very quick on the counter-attack. It wasn't our best day, but we have to be happy to get through. Nobody said it was going to be easy," he added.
Nacho acknowledged that they are feeling the overload of fixtures and tried to take the positives from a bad day for Real Madrid that didn't cost them elimination.
"When things don't go the way you want them to, you have to fight and play games like today that make you learn. The season is very long, we've got a lot of games under our belts and we're in a very good position. We've reached the quarter-finals and in L aLiga we have a very good cushion. It seems like a drama today because of the game we played, but we have to be proud," he said.
