The Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman blamed midfielder Xavi Simons as one of the culprits in his side's 1-2 defeat to France in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Kylian Mbappe fired France into next year's European Championships on Friday, scoring twice as his side kept their unbeaten qualifying record with a 2-1 win over a depleted Netherlands in Amsterdam.
France thumped their hosts 4-0 in the reverse fixture in March, with the Dutch missing several key players after a virus swept through the squad. The Dutch were again crippled by absences, with no fewer than 12 potential squad members injured or ill.
However, according to Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons is one of the biggest culprits for their recent poor performances.
"Xavi Simons didn't know what was going on around him on two different occasions. First he leaves the right-back alone and then he lets him into the box. And he gets punished. I also think Hartman should have been closer to stop the cross," he told reporters.
"I blame the team because against this kind of opponents, everything has to be right. In those defensive moments you don't have to look at the ball, you have to be responsible for the opponent and stop them. And Xavi didn't do that on this occasion."
