It has been a year since Neymar was last on the pitch for a competitive football game. After a lengthy period on the sidelines, the Brazilian is set to make his long-awaited return. Al Hilal announced on Saturday that Neymar will be part of the squad for the AFC Champions League clash against Al-Ain on Monday.
The Saudi Arabian side confirmed the striker's return with a video posted on their social media. "Someone is back," Neymar said in the video posted on the club's official X account. "I know you're anxious, I am too. And on October 21st, I am back".
The 32-year-old sat down for an interview with 'NR Sports', as he talked about the injuries that plagued him for a year. "What I love most in life is playing football. Each day I'm away from it, I suffer. So that... that's what hurts me the most," he revealed, unable to hold back his tears. "Every time I get hurt, I come back. But I don't come back hardheartedly and I won't give up,’ he added.
Before his long-term absence, Neymar's last game was with Brazil in during a World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay on October 18th 2023. The played was forced off the pitch before half-time after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture, and was replaced by Tottenham's Richarlison.
