Athletic Club captain Oscar de Marcos believes that "the best thing" for his teammate Nico Williams "is to continue" in the Basque team because, at 22 years of age, "it is the ideal place to continue maturing" as a person and as a footballer.
"Decisions have to be made by oneself and I have no idea what he is thinking, but I suppose his head is spinning. My opinion is that the best thing for him is to continue at Athletic," De Marcos underlined when questioned about the constant rumours of a possible departure of the international striker to Barcelona.
The captain also believes that "there is a feeling that when Barca want you there is a logic that you have to go there and if you don't you are making a mistake".
"Many times you have to take into account that all that glitters is not gold and you have to assess where we are. For Nico it is a delicate situation because there is a lot of noise from outside and it seems that this pressure can take you away. Nico is an Athletic player, right now I have the feeling that he is the one who is going to have to make the final decision. We are confident that he is going to stay with us," he stressed.
"He is making an ideal development. Every year he's getting better and better and he's going to have another year with the coach who's been getting the best out of him. He's a starter in the national team, he was one of the best players at the European Championship. He is in a dressing room that loves him, with friends, with his brother... I think it's the ideal place for him to continue maturing. I hope he puts all those things in the balance", reflected the player from Laguardia.
