Injuries are taking their toll on the national teams' call-ups. After Carvajal, Ferran Torres and Bryan Gil, the latest to miss out is Nico Williams.
The Athletic Club winger did not play for his team last weekend. Despite this, he joined the national team ahead of the Nations League clashes.
However, after the latest tests, the Spanish national team has confirmed the definitive withdrawal of Nico Williams for the October window, after also talking to Athletic's medical services. Luis de la Fuente has called up Sergio Gomez, a Real Sociedad player and regular in the youth ranks of the Spanish national team.
"Nico Williams has withdrawn from the training camp due to physical discomfort and will not play in the third and fourth matchdays of the UEFA Nations League in Murcia and Cordoba. The striker is leaving the Ciudad del Futbol in Las Rozas following talks between his club's medical services and the national team. In his place, Sergio Gomez, a Real Sociedad player, will join Luis de la Fuente's team," the RFEF said in a statement.
