Nico Williams, in declarations to FIFA, assures that he is “very ambitious” and that his goal is to “win more things ” after winning the Copa del Rey with Athletic and the European Championship with the Spanish national team this year.
On an individual level, his challenge is to “score more goals and give more assists”, as Joseba Etxeberrria, a former player of the Bilbao club who was his coach in the youth team, instilled in him.
“I have good conditions to be a better player than I am today and that is what I need, score more goals, be more clinical in front of goal (...) I try to work because I think I can make an incredible leap in my career,” he stressed.
The striker from Pamplona appreciates the fact that he can play together with Barcelona midfielder Lamine Yamal and other young players such as Yeremy Pino, Bryan Gil or Bryan Zaragoza in the Spanish national team.
"We are aware of what we can do. We are players who like to receive on the wing, dribble and then cross or shoot. The style with Luis de la Fuente has changed, we are more direct, we are doing great and we have shown it. We are also very young, we have to make mistakes, have our faults and try to arrive with the best conditions”, he reflects.
Of his experience with 'la Roja', Williams is grateful that they have helped him “to grow as a player”, in particular, Luis Enrique, the coach who made his debut, and De la Fuente: "I am super happy to be able to continue having these opportunities because for me it is incredible to be able to learn from the best. It's a dream come true and I hope it continues like this.
