PSG already know who their four captains will be this season. With Marquinhos at the head, Danilo Pereira and Presnel Kimpembe are next on a list that ends with Kylian Mbappe. The No.7 is on the ropes in the dressing room.
'RMC Sport' reported that Achraf Hakimi was the only player in the squad to defend the French star's leadership. At the Parc des Princes, the holders of the armband are decided by a vote taken by the players.
Brazil international Marquinhos, whose captaincy at PSG had been called into question, was backed by the squad as the team's leader after a vote on Tuesday in which he competed with Kylian Mbappe, Danilo Pereira, Presnel Kimpembe and Marco Verratti, according to the source cited.
Captain since 2020, when he was handed the armband by his compatriot Thiago Silva, the 'Selecao' centre-back did not wear the captain's armband in the 0-0 draw with Lorient in the Ligue 1 matchday 1, as Luis Enrique benched him against all odds, sparking a number of rumours. However, he regained the captaincy for last weekend's 1-1 draw with Toulouse.
The PSG coach explained last Friday that he does not appoint the captain, but the players themselves, who did so through a confidential vote. The 29-year-old Marquinhos is PSG's second-longest-serving player in the current squad, behind only Marco Verratti, and has just over 400 appearances in the capital club's colours.
