Italy's Alessandro Nesta, a former Milan and Lazio player, will be the new coach of Monza until 2025 with an option to renew until 2026.
"AC Monza announces that Alessandro Nesta will be the new first-team coach with an annual contract plus automatic renewal for one more season upon reaching certain conditions," the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
The 2006 World Cup winner and two-time Champions League winner, both with Milan, Nesta takes over from Rafaelle Palladino, who signed for Fiorentina just a few weeks ago. Nesta is thus reunited with Adriano Galliani, general manager of Monza and Silvio Berlusconi's right-hand man at Milan, who signed the player in 2002.
As a coach, this will be his first experience in the top flight of Italian football, although he is familiar with the profession having coached Frosinone, Reggiana and Perugia in Italy, as well as Miami FC in the United States.
