Daniele Rugani was one of the best centre-back projects in Italian football a decade ago. However, despite being at Juventus, where he had been since 2015, he has not made the expected leap. Now, at the age of 30, he is leaving on loan to Ajax.
"Ajax have reached an agreement with Juventus and Daniele Rugani for the loan of the centre-back. The loan of the Italian player will last for one season, until 30th June 2025," the Dutch club said in a statement.
Sporting director Alex Kroes welcomed him: "With Rugani we bring in a player who has years of experience in one of Europe's top leagues. He is an intelligent defender, tall and strong in duels. His arrival brings experience to our squad and to a relatively young defence".
"Everyone knows Ajax and this beautiful city. I couldn't sleep last week, but now that I'm here it's even nicer than I thought it would be," said the Italian defender.
