Federico Chiesa has become a Liverpool player. The Italian winger has left his native country to become a new Reds player for the next four seasons, after paying Juventus 13 million euros.
Chiesa's departure from the ‘Bianconero’ side was a matter of time. The former Fiorentina player was not part of Thiago Motta's transformation at Juve, in which he has left out the core of last season's squad.
Barcelona were a plausible option for the Italian, but in the end, it was Liverpool that landed a player who, before rupturing his cruciate ligament in January 2022, was set to be one of the leaders of Italian football.
“I’m really happy and ready for this new adventure,” he said. “I want to thank the Juventus fans, thanks for all the affection over the years, I’ll keep you in my heart, thanks Juventus."
The former Bianconeri player becomes the seventh Italian player to wear the Liverpool shirt. Previously, Paletta, Padelli, Dossena, Aquilano, Borini and Balotelli have all played for Liverpool.
Chiesa arrives this August to a Liverpool side that has made few additions in the transfer window. Apart from the arrival of Arne Slot, the Reds have only signed Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is also staying on loan at Valencia.
Italian winger lands at Anfield to play on the wing. He is used to playing on the left, although he can also start on the right. At Liverpool, he is not a guaranteed starter, as Slot has opted for Luis Diaz on the left flank, a Luis Diaz who has started at a high level.
Chiesa will have to fight for the Colombian to be among those selected for the starting eleven, given that Salah is irreplaceable on the right and Jota has won the game over Darwin Nunez as ‘9’.
This means Slot is left with two top-level tridents for the whole season. The first choice, formed by Salah, Jota and Luis Diaz. The second choice, with Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Chiesa himself.
