Barcelona star Gavi had to be forced off in Spain's qualifier against Georgia on Sunday because he was injured and unable to continue playing. The 19-year-old left the pitch in tears of pain and his injury looked serious.
The worst omens have come true for the Catalan giants as they announced on Monday that the Spanish midfielder has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
"Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus," they wrote on their website.
Gavi is expected to be out of action for the whole campaign although his club have not provided information on his recovery time. This injury is the same as that currently suffered by players such as Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois, who are ruled out for the whole season due to their injuries.
