West Ham United confirmed on Tuesday the signing of Argentina international and World Cup winner Guido Rodriguez on a two-year free transfer deal. The Argentine player has spent the last four seasons in La Liga playing for Real Betis, and now faces a new challenge in what he says "is the league where any player dreams of to play".
Defensive midfielder Rodriguez started his career at River Plate then moved to Club America where he won league and cup titles, and the former Betis player has made 30 official appearances for Argentina in the Albiceleste shirt. His new club has defined him as "A strong tackler with outstanding positional sense and accurate passing ability, Rodríguez is relishing the opportunity to show off his talents in the Claret and Blue of West Ham."
The two-time Copa America winner has already made his first words as a Hammers player and seems to be looking forward to his new adventure in England's top flight. “I’m very happy to be here. I feel like it’s every footballer’s dream to play in the Premier League, and I was very excited when I heard that West Ham were interested in me. It’s a historic Club, that has a really interesting project. I think it’s the right Club for me, at the right time, and I hope together we can keep growing," said Rodriguez
"I spoke to Edson (Alvarez) before signing, and we’re both really looking forward to working together again. I will help the team in any way I can. I will bring experience to the team, and though I’m aware the Premier League is very physical, I’m ready to put the work in to make sure I’m up to the task," added the former Betis player.
