It's official. Rasmus Hojlund has become Manchester United's third signing of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have been looking for a striker to reinforce their attack after the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo in November.
The English side tried to strengthen with Wout Weghorst in January but the Dutchman failed to live up to the board's expectations. The forward returned to Burnley when the 2022/23 season ended.
Hojlund made 34 appearances after one season at Atalanta, scoring ten goals and providing two assists. He joined the Italian side from Sturm Graz.
As a result, the English club have been looking for the perfect reinforcement in the summer transfer window and targeted the Atalanta striker but negotiations were not easy.
The Serie A side rejected United's opening bid of £40 million and set a price tag of £72 million. The English club refused at first to pay such an amount but eventually relented as they have paid £62 million for his transfer plus £10 million in add-ons.
Several top clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, among others, were interested in signing the 20-year-old for next season. However, Hojlund has decided to start a new adventure at Old Trafford.
He has signed a five-season contract with Manchester United and will be part of Erik ten Hag's attack. The Dane will share the dressing room with compatriot Christian Eriksen.
