Juventus announced on Tuesday the renewal of Italian midfielder Nicolo Fagioli for two more years, until 2028, despite having been suspended for seven months for the so-called 'betting case'.
On 17th October, Fagioli reached a plea of guilty with the Italian Football Federation after admitting that he had bet on football matches - and more sports on illegal platforms - and received a sanction of 7 months on the sidelines and a minimum of 6 months in therapy, as well as a fine of 12,500 euros.
Juve, who already showed their support for the academy player with an official statement, maintained their confidence by renewing the young midfielder. "Juventus are pleased to announce that Nicolo Fagioli's contract has been renewed until 30th June 2028. This continues the relationship with Nicolo, who has been with Juventus since the youth academy, when he was just 14 years old," the club said.
Likewise, sporting director Italian Cristiano Giuntoli assured that the renewal, while serving to support him personally, is also a sporting decision. "We support Nicolo Fagioli in his therapeutic and formative path and we want to give him all the support he will need in the coming months," he said.
"The renewal of the player's contract goes exactly in this sense, but not only, as Nicolo is a very important player for us. His technical quality and tactical intelligence are known to all and we are convinced that his return to the pitch will be a fundamental added value for us," he added.
