Sergio Ramos has joined Sevilla as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in June. The Spanish centre-back has received several offers from Saudi Arabia but has decided to continue his career with his first team.
The 37-year-old started playing professional football in the Andalusian club's academy and within just two campaigns, he was playing for the first team, where he played for three seasons before joining Real Madrid.
Ramos became a Madrid legend after playing 16 seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Paris Saint-Germain signed him for the 2021/22 season and decided not to renew his contract earlier this summer.
As a result, the Spaniard has been training on his own until now as he will start playing in Sevilla colours. The La Liga side made his transfer official on Monday, just before handing over the list of Champions League players.
The possibility of playing in Europe has been a turning point in Sergio Ramos' decision as he wants to continue competing at the highest level. He will be registered as an academy player in order to play for Sevilla in the Champions League. They are in group B with Arsenal, PSV and Lens.
Negotiations for his transfer had been ongoing for months but both parties have now reached an agreement and the former Spain international will play until June 2024 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium.
Jose Luis Mendilibar's men have endured a dismal start to the La Liga term, failing to earn a single point in the last three games. Their matchday 4 fixture against Atletico Madrid was postponed due to torrential rain.
From now on, it will be Sergio Ramos' and his new teammates' job to improve in the upcoming matches of the domestic competition.
