David Silva is calling time on his professional career. After rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, which would keep him off the pitch for many months, David has decided to hang up his boots at the age of 37.
"Today is a sad day for me. Today is the moment to say goodbye to what I've dedicated my whole life to," he declared as he watched a clip on screen that compiled some of the best moments of his career, which saw him wear a number of colours. Between Eibar, Celta Vigo, Valencia, Manchester City and Real Sociedad. Not forgetting the Spanish national team, with whom he won two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup.
"Today it's my turn to say goodbye to teammates who are like family to me. I will miss you all very much.
"Ches', 'Armeros', 'Celtinas', Cityzens and 'Txuri-urdines', thank you, because you've made me feel at home," he added, before the crests of the clubs he has played for appeared on the screen next to the RFEF crest, in tribute to his journey with La Roja.
David Silva is part of one of the most talented and successful generations in Spain's history. He is one of those youngsters in whom Luis Aragones has placed his trust to begin a historic period with Spain, with whom he enjoyed a legendary treble.
In England, Silva has lifted 4 Premier Leagues, 2 FA Cups, 5 Carabao Cups and 3 Community Shields. In 2020, he won the Copa del Rey with Real Sociedad.
