OFFICIAL: Marc Bernal renews for Barca with release clause worth €500m

Barcelona announced on Monday that Marc Bernal has agreed to extend his stay with the club until 2029. The contract includes a new release clause worth €500m. The contract is formally until 2026, however, it now includes three additional extra years until June 2029.

After a cruciate ligament injury and an external meniscus inury, both suffered in the span of three weeks, Barcelona have decided to reward Marc Bernal.
The Catalan giants announced on Monday that the player has agreed to a new contract, after initially renewing in the summer until 2026, that includes an optional three more years, thus until 2029. The deal will be active in May 2025, when the player will celebrate his 18th birthday.
"FC Barcelona and Marc Bernal have reached an agreement on an adjustment of the player's contract, which binds him to the club until 30 June 2026, when his status as an U19 player ends, with the option to three more years. The buyout clause has been set at 500 million euros," reads the side's official statement.
This is a very positive news for the La Masia product, who still has a long way to go until he makes his return to the pitch. He underwent surgery on the 9th of September after a major injury that will impede him to play for the next 12 months.
Marc Bernal is more than consolidated in Hansi Flick's starting XI. His official debut with the club was on the in the 2024-25 La Liga opener against Valencia at the Mestalla, a match that saw him begin his Barca journey from the first minute in the middle of the pitch. He also played against Athletic Bilbao in matchday two, and then against Rayo Vallecano in the third gameweek, where he unfortunately sustained his injury.
