Real Madrid, who are being heavily criticised for their controversial 3-2 win over Almeria in La Liga, announced on Tuesday Eder Militao's renewal until 30 June 2028.
The 26-year-old has been playing five seasons in a Madrid shirt and coach Carlo Ancelotti considers him a key player in defence. However, his recent anterior cruciate ligament injury could keep him out of action until next season.
The Brazilian defender has won one Champions League, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the 2019/20 campaign.
He decided to leave Porto five years ago to start his new career in the Spanish capital for 50 million euros. Militao struggled to earn his place as undisputed starter as Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane were playing an important role when he arrived in the team.
In his first season at Madrid, he played 20 games while in his second term he played 21. However, his key moment in his history with the Spanish club came in the third campaign.
Varane's departure to Manchester United gave him a chance to show his potential. Since the 2021/22 season, he has played 102 clashes for Real Madrid. Nonetheless, his injury has paused his match count this term.
He is recovering better than expected as he has returned to training at the Valdebebas training complex five and a half months after suffering his injury. His team will not risk him so quickly but are impressed by his daily work and ability to recover.
