Portuguese-Brazilian centre-back Pepe will not remain at Porto, with whom he finished his contract and who bid him farewell with a tribute video of his best moments in which they said the player is a "legend" who "makes them proud".
The 41-year-old veteran defender bids them farewell after winning four league trophies, five Portuguese Cups, four Super Cups, one League Cup and one Intercontinental Cup, as the Portuguese club recalled on social media.
Kepler Laveran de Lima Ferreira, known as Pepe, joined Porto in 2004 from Maritimo and played three seasons before joining Real Madrid in 2007. After ten seasons in Madrid and one and a half at Turkish side Besiktas, he returned to Porto in 2019.
In his two spells with Porto he played a total of 290 games and scored 17 goals. Pepe has not revealed whether he will say goodbye to the Portugal national team after losing in the quarter-finals of the European Championship against France or even if he will retire from football.
