Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Joao Neves, who joins from Benfica for 60 million euros and signs until 30 June 2029. Last season, the 19-year-old midfielder made 55 appearances in the Portuguese Liga. He is now heading to France, where he boasts of having chosen an "ambitious" destination. It is a further sign of the Parc des Princes' investment in young talent, not cheap.

This Monday afternoon, Paris Saint-Germain made official the signing of Joao Neves from Benfica. The 19-year-old moves for 60 million euros with this transfer and signs with the French capital until 30 June 2029.
The price has not been revealed by the French club, but first by the Portuguese president and then by the Portuguese Securities and Exchange Commission. Asked by journalists a few days ago, he admitted that he does not like to have to say goodbye to a youth player of such quality, but that such a high amount is unacceptable in this day and age. CMVM certified an initial payment of €59,921,587, which could end up being €69,908,518 for variables.
At the Portuguese club, the midfielder was contracted until 2028 and had taken the field 55 times during the 2023-24 season with three goals and one assist in his statistical bag. Forty-nine of his appearances had come with him in the starting line-up, which triggered an appearance for the national team that took him to the European Championship. He was not in the last matches of the 'Quinas', but he did play in the matches against Slovenia and France.
With Joao Neves and Vitinha at the helm, Luis Enrique's midfield looks set to be devastating, as he will have the youth and experience to revalidate PSG's eternal Champions League bid. Other youngsters such as Lucas Beraldo suffered from a lack of experience that should be sorted out by the important moments of next season.
