Hajduk Split have made official the signing of Ivan Rakitic for next season. The Croatian has signed for one year with the option to extend his contract for another season.
Rakitic will be playing for his first Croatian club since he turned professional. He started out in the youth ranks at Basel and then moved into the first team. He later made the jump to the Bundesliga when he joined Schalke 04.
His stay in Spain lasted 14 years and was divided between Sevilla, where he made a name for himself, and Barcelona, where he had his best achievements. He spent a total of seven and a half seasons in the Andalusian capital, divided into two periods, before leaving for Al Shabab.
In Saudi Arabia, Rakitic made only 8 appearances in which he scored one goal and gave away another. After playing for only 6 months in Saudi Arabia, the midfielder will return home to finally offer his football to his people.
