Marco Asensio arrived at Real Madrid as a young player with a lot to learn and is leaving 'Los Blancos' after seven seasons and with 17 titles under his belt. Real Madrid confirmed the Spanish winger's departure after a post on Instagram in which he thanked the player for all the years he has spent defending the Madrid side colours.
"Real Madrid would like to express their gratitude and affection to Marco Asensio, a player who has defended our crest and our shirt for seven seasons. He arrived at Real Madrid when he was just 20 years old and has managed to enter the history of our club as part of a team that has been part of one of our most successful eras," reads the statement.
"Marco Asensio has won 17 titles at Real Madrid: 3 European Cups, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 3 La Liga, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups. The 'Madridistas' will never forget his career and his exemplary behaviour throughout this time. Real Madrid are and always will be his home, and we wish him and all his family the best of luck in this new phase."
The Spanish winger is likely to join Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days. Although the player was targeted by Aston Villa and looked set to continue his career in the Premier League, in the end it was the French side who managed to convince the Mallroca native with an offer of eight million a year.
