Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches is leaving on loan to Benfica, with a purchase option, from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for next season, the French club announced in a statement.
Sanches, 26, arrived at the Parc des Princes in the 2022 summer transfer window, making 27 appearances in the No 18 blue shirt. However, he had played on loan at Roma last season, for whom he made a dozen appearances and scored one goal.
Originally from Lisbon, Sanches thus returns to the club with whom he made his professional debut, with Benfica B in the Portuguese second tier in 2014. A year later, he made his first-team debut for the first team, where he quickly established himself as a first-team regular and contributed to a Portuguese Cup and League double.
He then joined Bayern Munich, making 50 appearances and adding nine titles to his tally, before moving to the Premier League in the 2017-2018 season on loan at Swansea City.
He moved to the French league for the first time in August 2019, joining Lille. There he made 90 appearances and scored six goals in three seasons.
Sanches' loan move came just hours after PSG announced the signing of Benfica's Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves for 60 million euros.
