The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) announced Thursday the hiring of Argentine Sebastian Beccacece as the new coach of 'La Tri', following the departure of Spain's Felix Sanchez after their quarter-final exit at the Copa America.
Beccacece, 43, will have his first experience as national coach after having spent the last two seasons in charge of Spanish side Elche.
The Argentine will take charge of 'La Tri' ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where the Ecuadorian team is in fifth place with eight points from six games, having started the process with -3 due to a sanction from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following the Byron Castillo case.
In September, the Ecuadorian national team will visit Brazil and then host Peru in Quito, in the seventh and eighth rounds of the World Cup qualifiers, respectively.
