OFFICIAL: Tottenham agree to extend Timo Werner loan deal

Timo Werner will return to Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the 2024-25 season. The English club have made official an agreement with Red Bull Leipzig to bring back an attacker who arrived in January this year to play half a season under Ange Postecoglou. The Australian coach made him one of his key players - 11 starts in 14 appearances - and now guarantees he will continue to be available.
This time, negotiations have resulted in an option to buy, the amount of which has not been disclosed. Considering that he is contracted until 2026 by his Bundesliga club and that his market value is just over 33 million euros, it is quite likely that the figure is high, although it should be borne in mind that the German side sold him to Chelsea for 53 million in 2020 and bought him back for 20 in 2022.
His first spell in the British top flight generated high expectations because he was part of the Stamford Bridge offices' economic commitment to return to the top of the world game as soon as possible. In fact, he succeeded, winning several trophies of absolute importance in 2021, such as the Champions League, although, the following year, he dropped down the Blues pecking order.
This is the reason why he left for Leipzig after one and a half seasons. Although, in 22/23, he was starting practically every weekend, the first part of 23/24 dropped him to the bench, so it didn't take him long to put his agents to work to reach an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur that has now been replicated.
