The league match between Valencia and Real Madrid at the Mestalla was called off due to the devastating floods that hit the Valencia region in September. Almost two months after the terrible events, the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) have confirmed a new date for the encounter, which will now take place on the 2nd of January 2025 at 20:00 CET.
Carlo Ancelotti's side will therefore have the chance to cut the gap to La Liga leaders Barcelona, who sit four points ahead with an extra game played. Meanwhile, Valencia will first play their postponed match against Espanyol - scheduled for December 18 - before hosting 'Los Blancos' at the Mestalla. Ruben Baraja's men will have a clearer perspective on their league standings after having caught up on these two fixtures.
Vinicius Jr, who currently faces a period on the sidelines due to injury, will be expected back for Madrid's trip to Valencia after being a victim of racist insults from the 'Che' supporters. With reports suggesting a return later this month, the Brazilian star will look to help his side claim an important against their future opponents.
Despite sitting in 19th position, Madrid will think twice before undermining Valencia. In their last two visits to the Mestalla, the defending champions have been unable to claim maximum points on both occasions. In May 2023, the 'Ches' defeated Real Madrid 1-0 thanks to a goal by Diego Lopez and a year later, in March 2024, they managed to hold them back to a 2-2 draw as Hugo Duro, Yaremchuk struck for the hosts and Vinicius bagged a brace for the visitors.
