The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker has been appointed as Feyenoord's new manager, with reports emerging earlier this week when the documents were still being drafted to make the signing official. Van Persie is ready to begin his second managerial experience after leaving fellow Eredivisie side Heerenveen.
"Robin van Persie is the new head coach of Feyenoord 1. The Rotterdam club has reached an agreement with sc Heerenveen, where Van Persie was at the helm of the first team, on an immediate transfer that will allow the 41-year-old born Rotterdam native to start at training complex 1908 from next Monday. At De Kuip the same day, Van Persie will sign a contract until mid-2027," reads a statement from the Dutch side.
The 41-year-old replaces Pascal Bosschaart, who has been leading the club on an interim basis following Brian Priske's sacking earlier this month. General manager Dennis te Kloese confirmed that Bosschaart will continue working with Feyenoord and resume his old role as coach of the Under 21 side.
Speaking on his appointment, Robin van Persie said: "Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is. I am enormously looking forward, together with a strong staff, to working with the player group at 1908 and then in De Kuip, supported by the Legion, playing matches and achieving successes together."
Van Persie has previously trained Feyenoord's youth teams and was part of the coaching staff before that. Although he is known for his time in England, Van Persie started and finished his playing career at Feyenoord, scoring 46 goals in 122 games across two spells at De Kuip.
