Brazilian goalkeeper Luiz Junior became Villarreal's new player on Tuesday, who will pay 12 million euros for him in a transfer to Famalicao and with whom he has signed a six-year contract until June 2030. The outlay is the biggest Villarreal have ever made for a goalkeeper in their history and comes after they transferred Filip Jorgensen to Chelsea for almost 25 million euros a few weeks ago.
Junior is 23 years old and arrives after four seasons in the first team of Famalicao in Portugal, where he also has Portuguese nationality, something that will prevent him from occupying a non-EU place. In that time, the goalkeeper has played 140 games and has kept a clean sheet in 48 of them.
His 192 centimetres allow him to play well in the air, although he also stands out for his saves. In fact, he has been one of the goalkeepers who has saved the most penalties in the Portuguese League in recent years.
Junior, who was already present on Monday at La Ceramica, in the match against Atletico Madrid, will train on Tuesday under the orders of Marcelino Garcia and will be presented on Wednesday in the press room of the stadium.
