Portugal midfielder Joao Palhinha on Saturday highlighted Spain, the best in the group stage, among the best teams so far at Euro 2024, saying they are "very strong", along with Austria, "the surprise package", and Germany, who have also played "at a high level".
"We were four players and the coach asked us this question. Personally, I look at two teams: Spain, who are always very strong, and Austria, who are the surprise package of this European Championship. I see them as very strong. Germany are also at a very high level. I think they are the strongest," said the Fulham midfielder at a press conference, who will lead his side into the last 16 of the tournament in Frankfurt on Monday.
In their last match they lost 2-0 to Georgia. While the team is taking "the weight" of defeat amid the "demands" they are making on themselves in the tournament, the midfielder said there was "no point in thinking" about the previous game now, but rather looking ahead "to the response against Slovenia" and where they intend to "go" in the continental competition.
"We all want to win and make history with this team for our country. We are very ambitious, we are looking forward to the next game to give a good response. We have to create more chances. We are ready," he concluded.
