Papu Gomez knows what it means to succeed with Atalanta. The Argentinian midfielder, suspended for doping and in the process of having his ban reduced, sees Bergamo dazzled by his team just hours before the Europa League final.

Papu Gomez is one of the most important names in the history of Atalanta. The Argentinian was the basis of the great Dea that competed in Serie A and was in the Champions League for several years. The player talks about the Bergamo club and his relationship with Gasperini, and now, on the verge of his first European final.
"The city is shaken up. It is one of the most important years in the club's history. We have never gone so far in a European competition. It's a wonderful year. You can't ask for more. You can feel the hand of the coach and the club," said Papu in an interview with “AS”.
The Argentinian has only good words for the club and Gasperini, even though they did not end well because of his departure to Sevilla: "We met a few days ago, we had lunch after what happened to me when I left for Sevilla. We had a great time. They were interesting hours. What happened is in the past, we worked it out. We are two people who lived five years together, perhaps the best in the club's history, and we didn't deserve to end up like that. Better to sort out the problems, life goes on".
"Gasperini's coaching style is inspired by Ajax, Cruyff, Guardiola. He plays very attacking football, pressing, with the defensive line up front and three centre-backs. That was a source of strength for me and other players. He has been there for 8 years and is doing an extraordinary job. He has been given the keys to the club so that he can work calmly. Every year he reinvents himself. They sell players, others come in, and he always makes the most of that", the Argentinian explained.
Papu is currently suspended for two years after testing positive for terbutaline, a medication he took to calm a bronchospasm crisis: "We are still appealing with the lawyers and trying to get the sentence reduced. I'm living with patience, waiting for positive news. Hopefully, it will be this month or next month when there will be news. Let's see if my sentence is reduced and I can play again. In the meantime, I'm playing a lot of padel".
