The terrible news of the death of Cesar Luis Menotti was announced on Sunday. El 'Flaco' passed away at the age of 85, leaving behind him a trail of memories, experiences and anecdotes in Argentine and world football.
Champion with the 'Albiceleste' in the 1978 World Cup, Menotti has marked generations and generations of players and coaches. One of them has been Pep Guardiola, who wanted to say goodbye through an open letter.
The Manchester City coach has written through 'Ole' his farewell to the 'Flaco', a heartfelt and emotional letter to say goodbye to a legendary coach:
"I feel great sadness because someone with whom I shared no less than 30 hours of wonderful conversation in the four times I visited Argentina has gone. For me he was a genius because of his idea. He was the greatest seducer of Argentine football.
Listening to him was a lecture. Cesar was everything. Wit, education, intelligence. He made poetry out of his words and was always faithful to his convictions. Style was non-negotiable, he always said.
The last time I visited Buenos Aires, in March 2018, we had another wonderful dinner, long, fun... with all the footballing nuances that I am passionate about. I just wanted to listen to him.
There are very few people who give you so much in life that they never leave".
