The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) paid tribute to Pepe on Thursday, ahead of the match against Croatia, for the 141 games he played in the Portuguese national team shirt before announcing he was hanging up his boots last August.
Before the Nations League match between Portugal and Croatia, played at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, the president of the FPF, Fernando Gomes, presented the former player with a shirt with the number 141 on the back.
The 41-year-old former Portugal-Brazil international, who ended his career after playing at the European Championship in Germany, is the third most-capped player after Cristiano Ronaldo (212) and Joao Moutinho (146).
The former centre-back was named this week as an ambassador for Portugal's national teams, which is why he was with the squad for the match against the Balkans.
