The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Thursday paid tribute to him ahead of the Nations League match against Croatia for the 141 games he played for the Portuguese national team before announcing he was hanging up his boots last August.
Ahead of the Nations League match between Portugal and Croatia at Lisbon's Estadio da Luz, FPF president Fernando Gomes presented the former player with a shirt with the number 141 on the back.
The 41-year-old former Portugal international, who ended his career after playing at UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany, is the third most-capped player after Cristiano Ronaldo (212) and Joao Moutinho (146).
The former centre-back was named this week as an ambassador for Portugal's national teams, so he was with the squad for the match against the Balkans.
