England are back in action after their dreams were dashed just two months ago in Berlin when the Three Lions suffered a painful 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final of the European Championship, a title that has eluded them in the final of the last two editions.
England's defeat to La Roja signalled the end of an era that was reflected in the sacking of Gareth Southgate, who was replaced by Lee Carsley as interim manager. Indeed, the former Everton star will take charge of the Three Lions for the first time against Ireland in UEFA Nations League B.
The Englishmen were relegated to the second tier of the tournament after finishing bottom of a group containing Italy, Germany and Hungary last time out. Carsley and Co. will be looking to take all three points against the Irish to start on the road to promotion to the A League, which can be achieved by finishing top of the group or qualifying for the play-offs as runners-up.
England possible starting XI: Pickford (GK); Alexander-Arnold, Stones, Maguire, Colwill; Rice, Mainoo; Saka, Eze, Gordon and Kane.
Ireland possible starting XI: Kelleher (GK); Coleman, O'Shea, Collins, Brady; Ogbene, Browne, Smallbone, O'Dowda; Ferguson and Ida.
