The American dream is so appealing that even the Premier League has set its sights on fulfilling it from now on. The English Football League has opted this summer to inaugurate the Summer Series, a pre-season competition held in the United States involving six teams that will kick off the top flight of English football in a matter of weeks. The six teams involved are Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford and Fulham.
This friendly tournament kicked off on 22nd July and will come to an end next Sunday. However, in that period of time, they will not play against each other, but will play a total of 9 matches without counting the 3 that have already taken place. Mauricio Pochettino's new project kicked off with a narrow 4-3 win over the Seagulls, who will be in the Europa League. In addition, the Craven Cottage side claimed a 3-2 victory over the Bees as the Magpies and Villains shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller (3-3).
So far, 18 goals have been scored so far. That's an average of six goals every 90 minutes. The Premier League Summer Series has set the bar high in the United States. A project carried out with the intention of building loyalty among the North American public with the most powerful league in the world. Our clubs have incredible fans in the United States who passionately follow their teams throughout the season," said CEO Richard Masters at the launch. "I'm sure we will see some exciting matches during this tournament.
As for the remaining 2 matchdays, these are the 6 remaining matches: Brentford-Brighton, Fulham-Aston Villa, Newcastle-Chelsea, Brighton-Newcastle, Aston Villa-Brentford and Chelsea-Fulham. The new era of Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. The ambitious project of the Villa Park club in the Conference League. The return of the Magpies to the Champions League. The debut of the Seagulls in the Europa League. And the desires of the Bees and the Cottagers, which go beyond a comfortable stay in the top flight. The Summer Series is here to stay and the Premier League is just around the corner.
