There is no quiet day in the Netherlands. In the first days after the arrival of the international squad, there has already been a small fire started by Memphis Depay and for which Ronald Koeman has called him to attention.
In front of the media, the Atletico Madrid striker defended his friendship with Quincy Promes, arrested and convicted of drug trafficking in the Netherlands.
"The Quincy Promes you read about is not the Quincy Promes I know. I don't know the Promes who is convicted. He will remain my friend," Depay told the media.
The striker was asked about a photo of him and Promes on holiday: "We footballers create a lot of content and I post all sorts of things on social media. My photo with Quincy wasn't meant to provoke anyone, we were just on holiday in Dubai. Pogba was also in the picture. We just had a good time together, that's all I wanted to say".
Finally, the 'Colchonero' spoke about other friendships he has. "People should realise that I come from a difficult background. My brother was also in jail for 10 years and I was hardly ever asked about it. But about Promes. Benjamin Mendy and Dani Alves were also involved in criminal cases, but that doesn't mean they are no longer my friends. That doesn't mean I say they do the right thing or that I support everything they do, but I won't let them down," he said.
