Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro said he was “pissed off” but at the same time “proud” to be able to compete as they did at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals, in which they lost (5-4 on aggregate) following a goal by Antonio Rüdiger in the 115th minute of extra time.
“Pissed off, but proud. To be able to compete like this on the best scenario against the best team and do it the way we did... We have to give it value, even though it's difficult,” he commented in the mixed zone.
“To get to this scenario with the players that we are, the players that are coming up, the ones that have left... To be able to be close to a final is amazing and we have to value it,” he continued.
“We have to keep all the good things, which is a lot. Correct mistakes and return to these stages, as we have shown today -on Tuesday-. This continues and we want to fight for Europe, we are in the fight,” he said.
Remiro pointed out that they should feel like “finalists”, because they had Real Madrid “on the ropes”.
“They are capable of, being dead and tired just as much or more than us, being very clinical. We had them on the ropes for a long time and it's a shame. We were very close and we have to feel like finalists,” he concluded.
