The group stage of the Champions League 2023-24 comes to an end. The competition has determined the 16 teams that, from February, will fight to succeed Manchester City as champions of the tournament.
There have been 96 matches full of excitement that have left 16 teams qualified for the Champions League, 8 that have been relegated to the Europa League and another 8 that have said goodbye to Europe for good.
The qualifiers for the round of 16 are as follows
Thomas Tuchel's side have already booked their place in the last 16, and as top side, several matchdays ahead of time. With a spectacular Harry Kane in his first year in Germany, the Bavarians will be one of the opponents to fear in the draw for the last 16.
The big surprise of this group stage. The Danish side, in a group that also included a rejuvenated Galatasaray and Manchester United, were able to finish second in the group after beating the Turks and the English at the Parken. They will be in Monday's draw as the big draw for the group winners.
Mikel Arteta's side have returned to the Champions League in style. They had not played in the Champions League since the 2016-17 season, when they also qualified for the last 16. In an a priori difficult group, they have managed to bring their Premier League game to the top continental competition to finish top of their group.
For the first time in eight years, PSV will be in the Champions League round of 16 draw. The Dutch side came from behind against Sevilla on the penultimate matchday to seal their place among Europe's top 16 teams.
The king of the competition, the most successful team in the history of the Champions League, could not miss the last 16. They do so despite the absentees, but with Jude Bellingham as one of the candidates for player of the season.
Mazzarri's side survived a forced change of coach - Palletti left for the Italian national team - to finish second only to Real Madrid. They did not suffer in the decisive match against Sporting Braga.
Real Sociedad are back in the last 16 for the first time in 20 years, their third appearance since the Champions League became the Champions League. Imanol Alguacil's side played Inter Milan for top spot on the final matchday, after knocking out Salzburg and Benfica.
The runners-up in last year's Champions League could not miss out on the last 16. For the third year in a row, they have made it past the group stage. The first place in the group was at stake in the last match against Real Sociedad. If it maintains the level of Serie A, it is a candidate to return to the final.
Despite early doubts, Atlético de Madrid are back in the last 16 after last season's impasse. With Griezmann and Morata as their mainstays, Simeone's side will fight for the long-awaited Champions League that is missing from their trophy cabinet.
Maurizio Sarri has guided Lazio into the last 16 for the second time this decade. Immobile is no longer at his best, but he is still important in a team that put first place on the line in the last game against Atlético Madrid.
Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund were the first to qualify from the group of death. Edin Terzic's side, who are floundering in the Bundesliga, played PSG on the final matchday for top spot in a group that also included Newcastle and Milan.
Maximum suffering for one of the favourites to win the title. PSG, who drew in Dortmund, have Milan to thank for beating Newcastle and reaching the last 16. The most fearsome opponent for the group winners. Watch out for the Spaniards.
The reigning Champions League champions could not miss out on the crossings. Pep Guardiola's team have dominated their group with an iron fist and have left RB Leipzig, Young Boys and Red Star behind them to go through as group winners. And now, after spending the first part of the season injured, they have Kevin de Bruyne back.
Leipzig is another classic in the last 16. In this decade, they have only once failed to reach the last 16. With Xavi Simons and Openda as their best players, they will be looking for an affordable opponent in the draw as group runners-up.
Barcelona return to the place they should never have left. After two years of absence, 'dropping down' to the Europa League, the blaugranas return to the last 16 of the Champions League without a brilliant game, but they do play effectively. They do so, moreover, as top of a group that also included Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Antwerp.
Porto needed a point on the last matchday and qualified for the last 16 in style. They beat Shakhtar Donetsk and will be in the last 16 for the second time in a row.
