Rakitic's adventure in Saudi Arabia has lasted half a season. After leaving Sevilla last January for Al-Shabab, where he made just eight appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist, the midfielder is about to pack his bags and return to his homeland.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Rakitic will sign for two seasons with the Croatian side. The idea of being able to play in Croatia has finally seduced the midfielder. Although he was born and raised in Switzerland, Croatia has been his home and the country he represented internationally.
After retiring from the national team in 2020, this was his chance to feel the warmth of the Croatian fans again. Moreover, the Hajduk Split project has helped.
His coach will be Gennaro Gattuso, who expressly asked for Rakitic, and he will be surrounded by old teammates from the national team. The Croatian squad also includes Ivan Perisic and Nikola Kalinic. The club's aim is to break the dynasty of Dinamo Zagreb, who have only lost one league title since 2006.
