Kylian Mbappe sustained an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg earlier this week, which will keep him on the sidelines for 3 weeks. This means that the player will miss the derby clash between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid on Sunday.
Nonetheless, Mbappe wanted to be present at the Metropolitano to experience his first 'Derby de la Capitale' from the stands and to show support for his club during the crucial showdown. But, according to 'L'Equipe', Real Madrid have adviced the opposite to the player.
The French outlet explains that following the incidents that have taken place in recent derby matches, Real Madrid believes that it is best to avoid Mbappe's presence in the stands of the 'Colchoneros'.
Ahead of the match, Atletico sporting director Enrique Cerezo spoke on the derby and the possibility of Vinicius Jr suffering racist chants from Atletico fans, as has happened in past occasions. "No one at the club is anti-racist nor racist, the Atletico fans are an orderly fan base. I ask the fans to behave as they should and as they have always behaved in the Metropolitano stadium.”
