Thibaut Courtois sent a message of reassurance about Kylian Mbappe's fitness, who was forced off with an injury after 35 minutes against Atalanta after scoring the first goal in Real Madrid's win, and admitted that he has “nothing serious”, confident that he can be at the Intercontinental Cup final in eight days' time.
“He felt the muscle contracting a little bit, but I don't think there's anything serious. He stopped at the right time. We might lose him for the weekend, but I don't think we'll be missing him after that,” he said. Courtois highlighted the importance of Real Madrid's win to react in the Champions League after conceding 3 defeats in the previous 5 matchdays.
“We knew it's a very difficult field against the Serie A leaders, who were also going very well in Champions League. We started with chances and the goal; then, it cost us a bit more and the penalty is bad luck. We changed things in the dressing room and, in the second half, we were better. We held off their last chances well,” he analyzed.
“Sometimes it's hard for us to start the first and second half, we've conceded goals and today it was the other way around. We are very happy with the victory on a very difficult pitch and now we have to do the same against Salzburg and Brest,” he concluded.
