Real Madrid see themselves taking on Celta Vigo on Thursday in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. But contrary to the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia, Carlo Ancelotti will not be able to count on David Alaba for the upcoming fixture.
The Austrian defender has been sidelined with injury for over a year after having suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee. Although he travelled with the squad to face Barcelona at the King Abdullah Sports City at the weekend, he did not see a single minute of action.
Thibaut Courtois is also absent from the shortlist. With no injury reasoning involved, the Belgian shot-stopper has been given a rest in the domestic tournament to prioritise the upcoming La Liga and Champions League games. As a result, Lunin is set to start between the posts on Thursday.
This will only be the second round played by the 'Merengues' in the Copa del Rey as they were previously busy playing in the Spanish Super Cup. With the first round being against Second Division side Deportiva Minera, Celta Vigo will be Madrid's first La Liga opponent in the competition.
Goalkeepers: Andriy Lunin, Fran Gonzalez, Sergio Mestre.
Defenders: Lucas Vazquez, Fran Garcia, Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy, Raul Asencio, Lorenzo Aguado.
Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Luka Modric, Aurelien Tchouameni, Arda Guler, Dani Ceballos.
Forwards: Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo Goes, Endrick, Brahim Diaz.
