Brazilian Eder Militao is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday 19th November for a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with involvement of both menisci in his right knee, which he suffered on 9th November during the match against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Militao was injured after 27 minutes, when he tried to finish off a set piece, and his knee got stuck in the Osasuna box and he fell to the turf with clear signs of pain. His team-mates quickly called the medical staff and the Brazilian centre-back was stretchered off.
The Brazilian international defender had already suffered a serious knee injury on the opening day of La Liga last season, on 12th August at San Mames. He returned from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on 31st March, also against Athletic in La Liga clash.
It is therefore the second serious knee injury he has suffered in the last 15 months. Furthermore, on this occasion, the meniscus is affected, so the recovery period is expected to be around 9 months from the time of the operation.
He will undergo the operation on Tuesday, which will be carried out by Dr Manuel Leyes, who operated on him in August 2023.
